From Sunday School to forever
How we got here

2016
A few pews apart
Sunday School at St. Joseph's - two Grade 10 students who became friends first. On 29 October 2016, Pasindu asked her to be his.

2017
Still a walk away
We grew up together through school and sat our O/Ls side by side. Then life started moving, and distance came with it.

2018
An ocean apart
She left for Italy with her family. She would come back, stay a while, and leave again - and we learned to hold on through every goodbye.

2019
Coming and going
The last of the easy years. By December the distance had stopped being something we could simply wait out.

Years apart
Then COVID. Borders shut, and the goodbyes stopped having return dates.

Still apart
Another year of time zones, difficult days and countless conversations. Distance tested us. It never changed what we had.

0 km - and everything changed
In December she came home. Pasindu spoke with her family, and with both families' blessing it stopped being only about the two of us. Two families were becoming one.

2023
Between countries again
Life kept taking us apart and bringing us back. By then we knew how to make the days in between count.

Home again in December
She returned once more. After years of waiting, travelling and saying goodbye, the day we had always talked about was finally close.

16 January
Almost nine years after Sunday School, we got engaged. Then one more goodbye - she left again, and came home that December.

The last year of waiting
This time we both knew what we were getting ready for.

Back to the church where it began - the same place where two Grade 10 students first became friends.
